Senator Imee Marcos is pushing for the development and consumption of malunggay, a common green vegetable, to improve children’s health and nutrition
The daughter of the late President Ferdinand Marcos appeared in an animated infomercial to promote malunggay and its nutritional value.
The one-minute video starts with a kid experiencing hunger at home. The senator, in a red polo shirt, appears on screen expressing concern that 33.4 percent of children five years old and below are malnourished and suggests malunggay to improve nutrition and brain development.
“Ang malunggay ay isang super food! Ang dali pang itanim. Sa malunggay, ang inyong anak ay busog sa lusog. Pati din kayo!” she said in a Facebook post.
She said malunggay provides more vitamins and nutrients compared to oranges, milk and carrots. “Sa malunggay ang inyong anak ay busog sa lusog. Pati din kayo,” she said.
The senator also recently launched “Imeelunggay” livelihood program where malunggay seedlings are distributed to beneficiaries for planting.
