President Rodrigo Duterte said he is considering a nationwide firecracker ban next year.
In a televised address Monday evening, Duterte said he plans to issue a document banning firecrackers across the country by mid-2021.
“Baka next December i-bawal ko na ang putok because it is really a dangerous thing and for reasons of public safety and health. Public safety, mamatay ka, magkasakit ka. Health is ma-ospital ka, maputol iyong kamay mo. It’s a health problem actually iyong inhalation ng powder smoke,” the President explained.
“So, I am putting you on a warning na baka by mid-year, I will issue the necessary document totally banning paputok kagaya sa amin,” he also said.
Duterte said the holidays can be celebrated with safety in mind.
“Sa amin ngayon, maganda man. New Year, Pasko, we celebrate it with the family, may music, lahat na, gaiety and all. Walang — walang nasusugatan, walang namamatay,” he concluded.
