Interacting with Filipino friends: Chinese envoy in Manila joins Facebook

There’s a new addition to the Facebook family.

Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines Huang Xilian has expanded his digital presence by joining Facebook. The ambassador created an official page @AmbHuangXilian on the social networking site on Dec. 10 hoping to further enhance China’s dynamic ties with the Philippines.

“I finally decided to join Facebook to keep in touch with everyone in time for the holidays!” Huang said in a Facebook post. “Although we can’t be together physically, the virtual world can keep us just as connected! Cheers to the holidays!” he said.

So far, the official page of the Chinese envoy has earned more than 700 likes and 800 followers.

The ambassador said his Facebook page would be “an avenue to interact with Filipino friends, to share stories of our centuries-old friendship, to convey my commitment to our strong partnership and to carry on with our progress in communication and mutual understanding.”

He also hopes the virtual community will “become a new way for us to interact and engage with each other.”

“Together we can further enhance China-Philippines relations in more dynamic ways. I look forward to hearing from you, connecting with you and getting to know the Philippines and the Filipino people,” he said.

Since the creation of his Facebook page, the ambassador has written more social media posts, including his excitement this Christmas season.

“Christmas is just around the corner! Have experienced Christmas in some countries and this Christmas would be a special one,” he said.
