Senate President Vicente Sotto III is not amenable to the proposal to prioritize the politikos in the government’s free COVID-19 vaccination drive.
Sotto said politikos should pay for their own vaccines, not get a free shot from the government.
“Vaccinate politicians first? Wrong! So far, Covid19 Vaccines are 98% good. Why have us immune for free? Why don’t you just poison us? Then you run d country. Better?” he tweeted.
Sotto was reacting to social media posts that the COVID vaccines should be tested on politicians to check if they are safe and effective.
Instead of politicians getting free vaccine shots, the lawmaker prefers that the country’s health workers and the poor citizens should be given priority in the immunization program.
The government plans to acquire coronavirus vaccines for 60 million Filipinos in the next three to five years. Negotiations are ongoing with some vaccine makers such as China’s Sinovac to get the country’s supply.
