President Rodrigo Duterte plans to impose a firecracker ban in his last year in office, his spokesman said Tuesday.
“Sinabi po niya na sa huling taon na Pasko na habang siya ang nanunungkulan iba-ban po niya ang firecrackers,” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said in a televised briefing.
Roque said Duterte has given firecracker makers a year to find a new source of income.
“Dahil marami ang naghahanapbuhay at nakasalalay ang hanapbuhay sa industriyang ito, binigyan niya ng one final year para po sila ay magbenta ng firecrackers,” he added.
Citing health and safety concerns, the President had said he is eyeing to impose a nationwide ban on the use of firecracker by mid-2021.
