#PulisAngTerrorista! Police-related hashtags trend on Twitter after cop shoots mom, son dead in Tarlac

Hashtags condemning police brutality trended on Twitter Monday (December 21) over the cold-blooded killing of a mother and son in Tarlac by a police officer from Parañaque City.

The incident, which was caught on video, sparked outrage among netizens, who were appalled at the nonchalant way that Police Senior Master Sergeant Jonel Nuezca shot Sonya Rufino Gregorio, 52, and Frank Anthony Rufino Gregorio, 25, both residents of Barangay Cabayaoasan.

The shooting happened Sunday (December 20). Nuezca has surrendered to the police.

As of 8 a.m., the top Twitter hashtag in the Philippines was #StopTheKillingsPH, followed by #PulisAngTerrorista. Ranking third was the hashtag, #JusticeforSonyaGregorio while #EndPoliceBrutality was in fourth place.

In the video, Nuezca was shown shouting at the Gregorios as onlookers appealed for calm.

The cop reportedly went to the Gregorios’ residence because he was irked by an explosion of a PVC cannon or “boga.” The altercation eventually branched to their misunderstanding over right of way issues.

Just before the shooting, Nuezca’s daughter can be seen shouting at the Gregorios: “My father is a policeman!” Sonya responded, “I don’t care! Eh eh eh!”

It was at this point that Nuezca drew his gun and shouted at the Gregorios: “T*ng ina mo gusto mong tapusin kita ngayon ha?” He then shot the mother and son point blank in the head.

Nuezca is facing double murder charges over the killing.
