The attention-grabbing sign bearing the names of Speaker Lord Allan Jay Velasco and his wife on top of a towering Christmas tree inside Batasang Pambansa is now gone.
The Velascos had the signage removed shortly after Politiko posted an article about how they seemingly “owned” the Christmas tree by placing their names on top of it.
The decorative star which adorned the tree in previous Congresses was now back on top of the decor, replacing the Velascos’ signage.
The Christmas tree outside the session hall is usually decorated with angels with names of lawmakers and their families attached. Each angel is put up to represent the financial pledge made by the politiko to a cause supported by the House.
Despite removing the signage, Velasco is trying hard to be relevant for the holiday season. He recently released a Christmas video greeting with the tagline, “Ang kailangan ay LOVE ngayong Pasko.”
“Love” sounds a lot like Velasco’s acronym, LAV.
