China vows to donate 500,000 vaccine doses to Philippines

By Prince Golez

China will donate 500,000 doses of coronavirus (Covid-19) vaccine to the Philippines, Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi said.

Wang made the commitment during his courtesy call on President Rodrigo Duterte at Malacañang Palace Saturday.

The Philippine government earlier made an agreement with China’s pharmaceutical firm Sinovac for 25 million doses of Covid-19 vaccine for delivery starting next month.

The Chinese official also affirmed his country’s resolve to ensure that vaccines against the virus that infected nearly 95 million people worldwide become a global good.

Meanwhile, Wang promised that China will continue to support the Philippines’ recovery through enhanced economic cooperation.

Responding to Duterte’s call to prioritize infrastructure and reaffirmation of the importance of the East Asia nation’s support for the Build, Build, Build program, the State Councilor and Foreign Minister committed that China will complete pending infrastructure projects.

He likewise underscored China’s commitment to work closely with the Philippines to sustain the positive trajectory of the valued and special bilateral relations.
