President Rodrigo Duterte supports the decision of the Department of National Defense (DND) to unilaterally terminate the 1989 University of the Philippines (UP)-DND accord that prevents the presence of police and military in the state university’s campuses, Malacañang said.
“Si Secretary (Delfin) Lorenzana is an alter ego of the President,” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said in a televised briefing Tuesday.
“Of course, the President supports the decision of Secretary Lorenznaa,” added Roque.
In a letter dated January 15, 2021 to UP President Danilo Concepcion, the DND ended its 31-year-old agreement with UP banning the entry of police and military forces inside its campuses without prior coordination.
Lorenzana also cited information that communists are recruiting students from the university to join the communist insurgency.
