Allowing children aged 10 years in areas under modified general community quarantine to step outside their homes will be good for their health, Malacañang said.
Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque defended the decision of the the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases to allow people aged 10 to 65 to leave their homes beginning February.
“Filipino children have already stayed in their homes for 10 months now and allowing those to leave their houses, especially on a weekend activity, is good for their physical, social, and mental health,” Roque said in a statement.
The Palace official added that 10-year-old children “have started to develop their cognitive skills of following instructions from adults” and “are less frisky compared to younger children.”
Meanwhile, Roque said the IATF decision is part of the government’s goal of reopening the economy to support a recovery from the coronavirus pandemic.
“Not easing restrictions may have longer impact on jobs, income, poverty and hunger leading to further economic deterioration as well as health issues,” he concluded.
