Gov’t adopts new testing, quarantine protocols for arriving passengers

By Prince Golez

Beginning February 1, all passengers arriving in the Philippines need to complete a 14-day facility quarantine, Malacañang announced Wednesday.

They will also undergo swab test on their fifth day of quarantine, unless the passenger shows symptoms at an earlier date, according to Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque.

“Once a passenger tested negative, the passenger shall be endorsed to the local government unit (LGU) of destination where the passenger shall continue the remainder of the fourteen-day quarantine under the strict monitoring of the LGU,” Roque said in a statement.

He added that appropriate patient management shall be observed as outlined in the guidelines of the Philippine Society for Microbiology and Infectious Diseases and the Department of Health Omnibus Guidelines on Prevention, Detection, Isolation, Treatment and Reintegration Strategies for Covid-19.

To date, the Philippines has banned foreign travelers coming from 36 countries due to new COVID variants.

The country’s travel ban covers Czech Republic, United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Iceland, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Lebanon, Netherlands, Singapore, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the United States, Portugal, India, Finland, Norway, Jordan, Brazil, Austria, China, Pakistan, Jamaica, Luxembourg, Oman, United Arab Emirates, and Hungary.
