IATF postpones easing of age restrictions in MGCQ

By Prince Golez

The Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) on Emerging Infectious Diseases has deferred implementation of eased age restrictions in areas under the lowest quarantine restriction, modified general community quarantine due to the threat of new Covid-19 variants.

“In yesterday’s meeting, the IATF postponed the relaxation of the age-based restrictions in areas under MGCQ in compliance with the directive of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte,” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said Wednesday.

The government’s coronavirus task force earlier eased the age restrictions in MGCQ , allowing children aged 10 to 14 years old to go out beginning February 1.

But, in his weekly address on Monday, Duterte rejected the IATF decision, saying youngsters 10 to 14 years old should stay home.

Earlier, Malacañang said allowing children to go out amid the pandemic easing will be good for their physical, social, and mental health.
