Palace confident Benhur Abalos will bring MMDA to ‘greater heights’

By Prince Golez

Malacañang on Monday welcomed the appointment of former Mandaluyong City Mayor Benjamin “Benhur” Abalos Jr. as the new Chairman of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA).

“With the exemplary career of Chairman Abalos in public service, he brings with him the benefit of years of experience and wisdom to the bureaucracy,” Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Salvador Panelo said in a statement.

Abalos, a lawyer by profession, is replacing former MMDA chairman Danilo Lim, who passed away last week due to coronavirus disease.

Panelo said that he believes the son of former COMELEC chairman Benjamin Abalos, who was himself a chairman of the MMDA, was “qualified” to succeed Lim.

“With public service clearly in his DNA, Chairman Benjie Abalos will surely lead the MMDA to greater heights,” he added.
