The country’s Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has granted Oxford–AstraZeneca’s coronavirus (Covid-19) vaccine an emergency use authorization (EUA), Director General Eric Domingo said Thursday.
In a Laging Handa public briefing, Domingo said the vaccine has an efficacy of 70 percent after a person gets its first dose.
“Yung kanyang efficacy rate after the first dose is 70 percent at tumataas ito after bigyan ng second dose. Pero depende rin sa length of time kung kailang binigay ang second dose,” the official said.
“Dahil nga po may EUA na siya, maaari na siyang gamitin ng ating pamahalaan. Marami rin pong local government units na nakikipag-tripartite agreement with the government and AstraZeneca for them to be able to access this drug,” he added.
According to Domingo, the advantage of AstraZeneca is that it’s stored at 2 to 8 degrees.
“Hindi siya masyadong maselan and mas madali po siyang i-transport atsaka i-store sa lugar ng pababakunahan,” he furthered.
The FDA chief also said the use of AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine only causes “mild to moderate” side effects, similar to common vaccine reactions.
