Vice President Leni Robredo has urged the administration to be transparent in providing details about the inoculation of Presidential Security Group (PSG) members with a COVID-19 vaccine from China.
On her Sunday (January 3) radio show, “Biserbisyong Leni,” Robredo said a coverup of the vaccination will affect public confidence in the COVID-19 vaccines.
“Iyong hinihiling natin iyong transparency. Sana walang cover-up kasi ganoon iyong pakiramdam ngayon. Nakikita ko, Ka Ely, sa Twitter, nakikita ko sa social media, marami iyong mga claims na hindi pinapaniwalaan ng tao. Ito iyong ayaw nating mangyari,” she said.
PSG Chief Jesus Durante III earlier admitted that the President’s security detail had received two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine back in September even though the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has yet to approve a brand for use in the Philippines.
It was President Rodrigo Duterte who revealed that some soldiers had been vaccinated by the COVID-19 vaccine made by Sinopharm, China’s state-run pharmaceutical company. Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana, meanwhile, described the vaccine as “smuggled.”
Robredo said she supports calls in the Senate to investigate the COVID-19 vaccination of PSG members.
“Kung papalampasin lang, parang ine-encourage iyong tao na gumawa ng mali kasi wala namang nangyayari. Parang wala namang sanctions,” she said.
