Amid GCQ status, Baguio City still allowed to accept leisure tourists

By Prince Golez

The government’s coronavirus (Covid-19) task force has granted the request of Baguio City for its accommodation establishments to accept leisure travelers despite its transition to general community quarantine (GCQ).

Baguio City reverted to GCQ for the whole month of February due to a surge in Covid-19 cases.

“The IATF… granted the request of Baguio City for its hotels and other accommodation establishments to accommodate leisure travelers while under the GCQ classification, subject to the observance of strict health protocols and contact tracing measures,” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque announced Friday.

Mayor Benjamin Magalong earlier requested Tourism Chief Bernadette Romulo-Puyat to allow limited tourism in Baguio City.

The city lost P1.6-billion in gross revenue in tourism due to the pandemic.
