Catholic faithful urged caution during Ash Wednesday

By Prince Golez

Malacañang reminded Catholics to continue observing health protocols in observance of Ash Wednesday.

“Kinakailangan po pagpapatuloy natin ang pag-iingat,” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said in an interview with PTV-4.

The government earlier increased to 50 percent from 30 percent the allowed capacity for religious gatherings in areas under general community quarantine (GCQ).

“Bagamat pinapayagan natin hanggang 50 capacity ang ating mga simbahan, bagamat GCQ, ang ating panawagan, ang panawagan ng ating Pangulo ay ipagpatuloy natin ang ating mask, hugas, at iwas,” according to Roque.

In the Roman Catholic Church, Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the Season of Lent.
