Closer coordination needed to prevent another misencounter: Roque

By Prince Golez

Palace Spokesman Harry Roque stressed the need for a “closer coordination” in law enforcement operations to prevent a repeat of operational mishaps.

Roque made the statement after a recent misencounter between members of Philippine National Police (PNP) and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) that stemmed from a buy-bust operation in Quezon City.

“Siguro po talagang kinakailangang pag-isipan na ito ‘no, kasi pangalawang insidente po ito na parehong mga ahente ng mga pulis ay nagkasagupaan ‘no,” he said in an interview over DZRH.

The secretary was referring to the alleged shootout in Jolo, Sulu in June 2020 that killed four army personnel.

“Tingin ko kinakailangan ng mas closer na coordination sa mga hanay ng mga alagad ng batas ng sa ganito po ay maiwasan iyong mga misencounter na gaya nito,” said Roque.

Malacañang had said the President vowed to “get to the bottom” of the PNP-PDEA shootout, which left two police officers, a PDEA agent, and an informant dead.
