President Rodrigo Duterte has approved the creation of the National Amnesty Commission, his spokesman announced Monday.
Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said Duterte signed an executive order (EO) creating the National Amnesty Commission to decide on amnesty applications.
“Kasama ito sa ating hakbang tungo sa kapayapaan, kung saan inalok natin ang kamay ng kapayapaan sa ilang mga grupo para sila bumalik sa normal at payapang buhay,” Roque said in his virtual presser Monday.
The Commission will be composed of the Office of the Presidential Peace Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation and Unity as chair, with the Secretaries of the Departments of Justice, National Defense, and Interior and Local Government, and two others who shall be appointed by the President as ex-officio members.
“Ang primary task ng National Amnesty Commission ay tumanggap at mag proseso ng mga aplikasyon ng amnestiya at tukuyin ang mga aplikanteng pwedeng mabigyan nito,” the Palace official said.
