Duterte to Lacson: Use a language that will promote your person

By Prince Golez

President Rodrigo Duterte called out Senator Panfilo Lacson, who said in a now-deleted tweet that the chief executive’s demand for payment to retain the Visiting Forces Agreement with the United States may give the impression that the Philippines is a “nation of extortionists.”

“You have been a very cunning and ano sa mga statement mo, iyong pa-slide mo sa mga kuwan. Well, sabihin ko sa iyo, and so many other things in the past where you were wrong, sabihin ko sa iyo na you have nothing to do with this,” Duterte said in his televised talk to the people late Monday.

The President advised Lacson, a former chief of the Philippine National Police, to “use a language that will promote your person, human being” and “consult a lawyer in your office” before posting on Twitter.

But, he said he could “forgive” the lawmaker because he’s not a lawyer.

“I can forgive Lacson because he is not [a lawyer] na [he] should look at the Constitution. The Constitution of the Philippines provides that the foreign relations or foreign policy is vested in the president alone,” said Duterte.
