Emission or MVIS certification still needed prior to vehicle registration – Palace

By Prince Golez

Malacañang on Friday clarified that a certificate issued either by emission testing centers or private motor vehicle inspection centers (PMVICs) is still needed for a vehicle to be registered.

This, after Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque announced in yesterday’s virtual briefing that President Rodrigo Duterte ordered not to make the MVIS for vehicle registration mandatory.

“Bagamat ang Pangulo po ay nagsabi na hindi dapat ipatupad ang Motor Vehicle Inspection, kinakailangan pa rin po na magsubmit ng either yung emission clearance or MVIS,” Roque said in an interview with state-run PTV-4.

The secretary said operators of PMVICs have lowered their inspection fee to only P600 from P1,500 to P1,800 for private vehicles.

“Ang mabuting balita ngayon, alinsunod sa naging order ng ating Presidente, ang mga operators ng private motor vehicle inspection centers ay nagsabi na ang singil nila ay kapareho lamang ng emission test na P600,” according to him.

“For P600, habang panahon ng pandemiya, ang inyong sasakyan po will be subject to 73 road worthy inspection check,” said Roque.
