Enemy of the state: Palace brushes off Lagman’s concern over Myanmar coup

By Prince Golez

Malacañang has shrugged off the remark made by Albay Rep. Edcel Lagman that the “nonchalant attitude” of the Duterte administration towards the military coup in Myanmar proves its support for the government’s militarist approach.

That was his personal opinion, said Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque told reporters when asked to comment on Lagman’s remark.

“Naku, personal na opinyon po niya, hindi na dapat po komentuhan at alam naman natin talagang kalaban po si Congressman Lagman ng gobyerno natin,” Roque said in his televised briefing Tuesday.

Lagman had urged President Rodrigo Duterte to take a strong stand against the coup by Myanmar’s military against State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi.

The detention of Suu Kyi, one of democracy’s leading icons, was a “global concern which the entire free world must condemn instantly and unequivocally,” he added.
