Hirap din sa pandemya: SWS finds 4.4M school age kids not enrolled in Nov 2020

Some 4.4 million school-age individuals (5-20 years old) or 13 percent were not enrolled when the Social Weather Station (SWS) conducted its survey in November 2020.

Of those who were not enrolled, 15 percent belong to the age group of 5 to 6 years old, 3 percent to the 7 to 11 years old, 4 percent to the 12 to 15 years old, 13 percent to the 16 to 17 years old, and 40 percent to the 18 to 20 years old.

The survey said that an estimated 29.8 million (87 percent) school-age Filipino were enrolled for the School year 2020-2021.

Among those currently enrolled, 7 percent (estimated 2.1 million) are in pre-primary, 45 percent (estimated 13.3 million) are in elementary, 29 percent (estimated 8.6 million) are in junior high school, 13 percent (estimated 3.9 million) are in senior high school, and 6 percent (estimated 1.9 million) are in college.

The percentage of currently enrolled school-age Filipinos is 88 percent in the Visayas, 87 percent in Balance Luzon, and 86 percent each in Mindanao and Metro Manila.

The survey was conducted from November 21 to 25, 2020, using face-to-face interviews of 1,500 individuals ages 18 years old and above. It has sampling error margins are ±2.5% for national percentages.
