Duterte approves P3.52-B more for national ID implementation

By Prince Golez

President Rodrigo Duterte and his Cabinet approved the P3.52-billion additional budget for 2021 for the implementation of the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) or the national ID system, Malacañang said Wednesday.

In a statement, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said the additional funds will allow the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) to register 20 million more individuals to the PhilSys by the end of 2021.

In 2018, Duterte signed the PhilSys Act (Republic Act 11055) to provide a valid proof of identity for all Filipinos and resident aliens.

The PSA is mandated to lead the PhilSys, with support from the PhilSys Policy and Coordination Board chaired by the National Economic and Development Authority and composed of various government agencies.

Meanwhile, Roque also announced that Duterte approved the plans of the Task Force Build Back Better (TFBBB) on flood mitigation and management in Cagayan Province and Marikina City.

The President earlier issued Executive Order No. 120, strengthening rehabilitation and recovery efforts in typhoon-hit areas through the creation of the TFBBB.
