Malacañang on Wednesday said it respects the declaration of the World Health Organization (WHO) that the Philippines has not been singled out in the request for indemnification requirements due to the Dengvaxia dengue controversy.
WHO Philippines Representative Rabindra Abeyasinghe had said that supply agreements are “common” to all countries and are not specific to the Philippines.
“We welcome the remarks of the WHO, and, of course, we hold the WHO declaration as the most authoritative declaration on this matter and we leave it at that and so be it,” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said during a televised presser.
Roque also said NTF COVID-19 Deputy Chief Implementer Vince Dizon confirmed to him that Pfizer-BioNTech really required a particular form of indemnity agreement and the law itself.
Vaccine czar Carlito Galvez Jr. earlier claimed that Pfizer wanted assurance after Sanofi Pasteur faced charges for reckless imprudence resulting in homicide over deaths allegedly caused by Dengvaxia.
