Malacañang said it was saddened by a recent national poll that showed joblessness among adult Filipinos was at 27.3 percent.
According to the Social Weather Stations survey conducted from November 21 to 25, 2020, 12.7 million Filipinos are unemployed in November 2020.
“Malungkot po tayo na hindi pa rin bumababa o hindi pa rin bumabalik sa dating datos ang ating joblessness bago po nasalanta tayo ng Covid-19,” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said during a televised briefing Tuesday.
Roque also underscored the need to reopen the economy to address the job loss caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Ito po ang dahilan kung bakit kinakailangang magbukas pa rin tayo ng ating ekonomiya nang sa ganoon mas marami sa ating mga kababayan ang makapag trabaho.
“Kaya naman po ito, alam na natin kung paano iiwasan ang Covid-19 – Mask, Hugas at Iwas. Ingat-buhay para sa hanapbuhay,” he added.
