“The President is the chief architect of foreign policy. Hindi po tayo nanghihimasok.”
This was Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque’s reaction after Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr. called him out for commenting on the new China Coast Guard law.
Locsin tweeted that while he loves Roque, he’s not “incompetent” to comment on the law that allows the Chinese Coast Guard to fire on foreign ships in its waters.
“We do not go back to The Hague. We might lose what we won. Harry, lay off,” he also said.
On Monday, Roque said the Philippines can bring China before the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea to question its controversial law.
“It is clear from our answer yesterday na we said, theoretically, the only forum is the Tribunal for the Law of the Sea, but the decision whether or not go there lies with the Department of Foreign Affairs, as well as, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the other countries,” the spokesman reiterated.
