ECQ extension in NCR, 4 provinces an ‘absolute last resort’, says Palace

By Prince Golez

The Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) on Emerging Infectious Diseases will meet on Saturday to decide whether or not the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) status in Metro Manila and four neighboring provinces will be extended, Malacañang said.

In a virtual presser Tuesday, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said the extension of weeklong ECQ will be an “absolute last resort.”

“Kung ma-e-extend pa ang ECQ, pinag-iispan ito ng mabuti ng inyong IATF. Sa Sabado, Black Saturday, ay meron po kaming muling pagpupulong para isapinal kung ano ang mangyayari. Pero sinabi ko na po ito, another week or two weeks of ECQ, yan po ay magiging absolute last resort,” according to Roque.

“Inaasahan po natin na dahil nga po sa isang linggong ECQ na nangyari matapos pong isang linggo na NCR Plus bubble, kasama po ng mask, hugas, iwas at maigting na pagbahay-bahay para maghanap ng may sintomas at yung mas pinaigting pa nating testing and isolation, umaasa po tayo na sana po hindi na kinakailangang mag ECQ,” he also said.

President Rodrigo Duterte earlier placed the National Capital Region and the provinces of Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna and Rizal under ECQ until April 4 to help curb the rising coronavirus cases in the country.
