Mainit sa Lakas-CMD: Mikey Arroyo removed as vice chair of House appropriations panel

By Billy Begas

Pampanga Rep. Juan Miguel ‘Mikey’ Arroyo was removed on Tuesday as vice chairperson of the powerful House Committee on Appropriations.

Quezon City Rep. Allan Benedict Reyes replaced Arroyo.

However, Arroyo remains as a Deputy Majority Leader and chairman of the House Committee on Energy.

The son of former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo is the third member of Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (Lakas-CMD) who was removed from a leadership post amid the alleged plan to oust Leyte Rep. Ferdinand Martin Romualdez as Majority Leader.

Romualdez is the president of Lakas-CMD while Arroyo is the Executive Vice President.

Arroyo’s removal from the appropriations panel came a week after Zamboanga Sibugay Rep. Wilter ‘Sharky’ Palma and Quezon City Rep. Anthony Peter ‘Onyx’ Crisologo were removed from the House Committee on Rules being led by Romualdez.

Palma is the Deputy Secretary General of Lakas-CMD while Crisologo is a stalwart.

The Appropriations Committee handles all matters directly and principally relating to the expenditures of the national government including payment of public indebtedness, creation or abolition and classification of positions in government, and the determination of salaries, allowances and benefits of government personnel.
