The House of Representatives has approved on third and final reading a measure establishing a rental subsidy program for informal settler families (ISF) who were displaced due to natural or man-made disasters.
With 189 affirmative votes, six negative and zero abstention, the House approved the proposed Rental Housing Subsidy Program Act (House Bill 8736).
Negros Occidental Rep. Francisco Benitez, chairperson of the House Committee on Housing and Urban Development and sponsor of the bill said qualified ISFs in Metro Manila will be given rental subsidy not exceeding P3,500.
The rental subsidy rate outside Metro Manila will be determined by the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) and the National Economic Development Authority (NEDA).
The beneficiaries shall pay to the lessor the portion of rental fee if it exceeds the approved subsidy rate.
The subsidy will be given to the eligible ISFs until the date of completion of the permanent housing project intended for them or upon their actual transfer to the permanent housing project, whichever comes first.
