There is no truth to a circulating message that Metro Manila will be placed under a “circuit breaker lockdown” for two weeks starting tomorrow, Monday.
In a statement released Saturday, Palace Spokesman Harry Roque said the government will not declare a two-week “circuit breaker” lockdown in the capital region amid a sharp rise in coronavirus (Covid-19) cases.
“False,” Roque told reporters.
According to the message, non-essential business will cease physical operations from March 22 until April 4 in Covid-19 hotspot areas.
A circuit-breaker lockdown is a strategy implemented for a limited amount of time aimed at bringing down the rate of new coronavirus infections.
On Saturday, the Philippines recorded a total of 7,999 new Covid-19 cases, its highest single-day tally since the pandemic began last year.
