Philippines ready to go ‘cashless’, says Palace

By Prince Golez

Malacañang is confident that the government is prepared to transform the Philippines into a cashless society.

Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque made the comment after a survey conducted by MoneyTransfers.com ranked the country ranked sixth among nations willing to go cashless.

“Pang-anim nga po tayo sa digital ranking at iyan naman po’y patunay na we can readily make the shift to a cashless society dahil alam naman natin na iyong physical pera ang isa sa pinakamalakas na magkalat ng COVID virus,” Roque said in a televised briefing Tuesday.

As to when we could turn into a cashless society, Roque said he had no idea.

He, however, said the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas has taken steps to minimize transactions using banknotes and coins.
