Last January, Geely Auto revealed their newest Volvo-based SUV, the KX11. In preparation for its April launch date, the Chinese carmaker has finally given it a name, while also revealing some of its key features.
Known in the Chinese domestic market as the Xingyue L, this is the third Geely model to use the Volvo-developed CMA platform after the Xingyue coupe crossover (known as the Geely Tugella internationally) and the Preface sedan.
The 2022 Xingyue L is huge—measuring in at 4,770 mm in length and 1,895 mm in width. Its wheelbase clocks in at 2,845 mm making it even longer than the 7-seater Okavango (the Okavango is longer overall though). Sadly, contrary to initial rumors, the Xingyue L will be sold exclusively as a 5-seater. This limits its appeal for the Philippine market.
That said, the Xingyue does confirm Geely’s luxury positioning for their newest SUV and with that features the mother of all LCD screens—a 1-meter-long display that spans the entire width of the dashboard. So far, the Chinese carmaker has yet to reveal the screen in action, but expect it double as an ambient lighting of sorts.
As for powertrain, Geely has so far confirmed the 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder with 238 horsepower and 350 Nm of torque for the Xingyue L. It’s likely though that it’ll share the same engines as the Xingyue. With that, the choices will include the 1.5-liter turbo shared with the Coolray and Azkarra (177 horsepower, 255 Nm of torque), a 1.5-liter mild-hybrid with 190 horsepower and 300 Nm of torque (shared with the Okavango), and even a plug-in hybrid with 258 horsepower and 415 Nm of torque.
With Geely Philippines promising a brand-new model every 6 months, the Xingyue could be an interesting candidate for them to enter the executive vehicle segment, offering an SUV instead of a sedan.
