After showing off what it could do on the racetrack with its very own one-make race, Toyota Motor Philippines is capitalizing on that with the launch of a sporty new variant of its best-selling Vios: the 2021 Vios GR-S.
Imbued with the Toyota GAZOO Racing spirit, the Vios GR-S infuses an upgraded design and new features to the country’s best-selling sedan.
“There are over 340,000 Vios owners out there who use these reliable, tried and tested vehicles in their daily lives. Our goal with the Vios GR-S is to transform your reliable everyday car, to a Vios that gives a more pleasurable drive, whether on track or on the road—the Vios GR-S will bring next level thrill in your everyday drive,” says Toyota Motor Philippines president Atsuhiro Okamoto.
The Vios GR-S comes with a striking exterior marked with a sporty front bumper and grille, aero kit, lip-type spoiler, 16-inch high-gloss black rims, and of course, the prestigious GR emblem. Inside, it comes with leather/suede combination seats with red stitching as well as a leather steering wheel and shift knob—both sporting red stitching.
Mechanically, the Vios GR-S shares the 1.5 G’s 1.5-liter 2NR-FE engine, and for that makes 107 horsepower and 140 Nm of torque. The sole transmission on offer is a CVT gearbox with 10 pre-determined shift points. Compared to the 1.5 G though, the Vios GR-S offers the added security of rear back-up sensors along with 7 SRS airbags, ABS, EBD, and stability control.
Following the introduction of the Vios GR-S, Toyota Motor Philippines has also announced spec changes to the rest of the Vios line-up, including a significant price drop for its 1.5 G grade. Changes for 2021 include a revamped 6.75-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as well as steering wheel switches on all variants from the XE upward; a new fabric seat design for the G, XLE, and E variants; an additional two speakers for the XE variant; and new alloy wheels for the XLE and E variants (check the full spec sheet below).
