‘Wag tagalan! Duterte: Fast-track vaccine rollout for medical frontliners

By Prince Golez

President Rodrigo Duterte wants faster Covid-19 vaccination of health workers so the country can inoculate the next vaccine priority groups.

“‘Yong mga health workers lahat, ‘yong sa priority A1, kailangan bilisan niyo na, they must go now, they must look for a way to have the vaccines ahead of time. Kung ngayon na, huwag na nilang tagalan because ang nagahintay ‘yong sunod, itong senior citizens,” Duterte said in his weekly speech Monday.

Under the Covid-19 vaccination program, frontline workers in health facilities both national and local, private and public, health professionals and non-professionals like students, nursing aides, janitors, and barangay health workers top the country’s priority list for vaccination.

The next priority groups will be senior citizens aged 60 and above; persons with comorbidities; frontline personnel in essential sectors including uniformed personnel and those in working sectors; and indigent population.

Since March 1, some 668,018 of 1.7 million health workers in the country have already received a first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.

“Ngayon, itong the other guys downwards, they have to wait for their turn. So kailangan mabilisan pagdating ng bakuna nandiyan, sila na. Dapat itong 1, 2 and 3 maybe, ma-lump into one na paspasan when the bakuna is there so we can move on to the rest of the population,” the President said.
