Baka ma-Dengvaxia? PAO forensics chief tells DOH: Monitor recipients of AstraZeneca vaccine

The Department of Health (DOH) should monitor those who received shots of the AstraZeneca vaccine against the COVID-19, virus Public Attorney’s Office (PAO) forensics chief Dr. Erwin Erfe said.

Erfe gave the advice in his latest Facebook post after the DOH decided to temporarily stop administering the AstraZeeneca vaccines to persons under the age of 60 years old after the European Medicine Agency (EMA) found blood clotting with low platelet count as a side effect.

“DOH had adopted the recommendation of FDA to stop AstraZeneca vaccination,” read his post.

“It is DOH’s moral and legal obligation to monitor all AstraZeneca vaccinatedindividuals for the rare possibility of blood clots as they did in Europe,” he stressed.

The PAO has been prosecuting, on behalf of families, those who are believed should be held responsible for the deaths of those who received doses of the anti-dengue vaccine Dengvaxia.

In prosecuting those in the Dengvaxia cases, PAO accused former and current DOH officials of failing to conduct proper screening of Dengvaxia recipients and to implement active and aggressive monitoring and surveillance of vaccinees.
