Senator Leila de Lima on Monday praised the joint efforts of Filipino people from different social classes to set up community pantries to provide immediate food relief to those in need.
The chair of the Senate committee on social justice singled out the organizer of the Maginhawa Community Pantry, which pioneered and inspired other villages to set up their own community pantries.
“The setup of a community pantry of essential goods in Maginhawa, Quezon City is truly commendable as it created a ripple effect that inspired citizens from different parts of the country to come to the aid of those struggling to feed their families amid the pandemic,” she said.
“Saludo po tayo sa mga kababayan nating nagkukusang-loob na tumulong,” De Lima said.
“As we see strangers helping strangers during these hard times, we are reminded that Filipinos’ Bayanihan spirit is very-much alive and that a simple act of kindness goes a long way,” De Lima added.
