Former Senator Bongbong Marcos is taking up the cudgels for the community pantries from allegations of communist rebel ties.
Marcos took to Instagram to defend the grassroots movement where people share food to others in need. He said pantries showed the bayanihan spirit among kind-hearted Filipinos.
“Ang Community Pantries ay hindi mula sa pamahalaan o sa komunista — ito ay mula sa mga simpleng mamayang nagmamalasakkt sa kapwa,” he said.
The former senator also dispelled speculations about the motive behind the community pantries, saying bayanihan during adversity knows no color.
“Walang kulay ang bayanihan. Walang kulay ang pakikipag-kapwa tao,” he added.
Community pantries have been popping up all over the country as people share food to the poor suffering during the pandemic lockdown. Some government forces however suspected that the local communist rebel group was behind the food pantries as a tool to undermine the government.
