Former senator Jinggoy Estrada didn’t consult with his mother, Loi, before allowing his father, former President Joseph Estrada, to be intubated.
Jinggoy shared the critical decisions he made about his father’s health in a virtual mass held for his father over the weekend. His anecdote was written by actress Giselle Sanchez in her April 15 column for the Manila Bulletin.
“When the doctor said he needed to be intubated, and they needed the answer immediately because they might lose him, I immediately complied without asking for my mother’s permission and the family’s as well,” Sanchez quoted Jinggoy as saying.
“I am glad I made that call because now that he has been extubated, I am so happy because the nurse sent me a video of my dad singing his favorite song, ‘Always You,’ in the emergency room,” the former senator added.
Estrada was confined at a hospital after testing positive for COVID-19 on March 29. He had to be hooked up to a ventilator because his pneumonia worsened.
Jinggoy announced Tuesday (April 14) that his father has been transferred to a regular room. The former President, his son added, has no more fever and is eating well.
