Sinovac’s the jab: BI starts COVID-19 vaccination of 1,250 employees

Over 1,000 immigration personnel will get vaccinated against the COVID-19 virus this weekend, Bureau of Immigration (BI) Commissioner Jaime Morente said.

“The continuous rise of COVID-19 cases accentuates the need to vaccinate our frontliners, especially those belonging in the most vulnerable group such as the seniors and persons with co-morbidities,” he said in a statement.

“We want to assure their safety from the threat of the deadly virus,” he added.

Morente said the government has purchased for the BI the CoronaVac from Sinovac Biotech.

“We have scheduled vaccination of our eligible employees on a weekend so as not to hamper our daily operations,” Morente said.

He said he is targeting to have 1,250 Bi personnel vaccinated this April 24 and 25.

The BI chief noted that CoronaVac is administered in two doses at an interval of 28 days.

So far, almost 300 BI employees caught COVID-19.
