5 NCR LGUs to receive first batch of Russia’s Sputnik V vaccines

By Prince Golez

The first shipment of 15,000 doses of Sputnik V vaccines, developed by Russia’s Gamaleya Institute, will be used in five local government units in the National Capital Region, Department of Health (DOH) Undersecretary Myrna Cabotaje said.

Said initial supply arrived in Manila on Saturday via Qatar Airways flight, which will be used for a dry run in preparation for the arrival of the bulk shipments this month.

In a Dobol B TV interview Sunday, Cabotaje said the five Metro Manila LGUs are Makati, Manila, Muntinlupa, Parañaque, and Taguig.

They will get 3,000 Sputnik V vaccine doses each, she added.

When asked how these cities were determined to receive the first doses, the DOH official said: “Meron silang cold-chain… tapos ready yung facility na mag receive.”

The Russian-made Covid-19 vaccine needs to be kept at minus 18 degrees Celsius to maintain its efficacy.
