President Rodrigo Duterte did not blame the officials of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) for the latest attack of the Islamic State-linked Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) in Maguindanao, Malacañang said.
Last May 11, Duterte appealed to BARMM authorities to control the BIFF or he will be forced to launch an all-out offensive against the militant organization.
“Hindi po niya sinisi ang BARMM. Alam naman po natin ang nagkakalat ng lagim diyan sa BARMM ay mga bandido, BIFF, splinter groups of BARMM,” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said in a virtual presser Monday.
“It’s an expression of exasperation at the same time a warning that the state will not tolerate itong mga acts of violence,” Roque also clarified.
The country’s chief executive, he added, continues to be supportive of the Bangsamoro transition.
When asked if Duterte will certify as urgent the proposed measures seeking to extend the term of Bangsamoro Transition Authority by another three years, Roque said: “Umuusad na po yan. Ang importante, palaging inuulit ni presidente ito, bagamat he can certify anything as urgent, kapag naman ang Kongreso hindi talaga convinced, eh mahihirapan din po.”
