Deadline on July 16: JBC accepting applications for SC vacancy

The Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) has begun accepting applications for a seat at the Supreme Court (SC).

In an announcement, SC Clerk of Court and JBC Ex Officio Secretary Marife Lomibao-Cuevas said applicants have until July 16 its Online Application Scheduler.

“They must submit the complete and accurate digitized versions of (a) the letter of intent and (b) the documentary requirements through electronic mail to orsn.jbc@judiciary.gov.ph on the their selected date and time of appointment in the Online Application Scheduler,” she advised.

“The date of actual receipt of the complete documentary requirements (sent through e-mail) shall be deemed as the date of filing,” she added.

Cuevas also warned: “Applicants who have found the Council to have wilfully made false statements, misrepresentations, or concealments of any material information as provided for under the 2020 Revised JBC Rules shall be considered disqualified from being nominated by the Council.”

The JBC began accepting applications in anticipation of the June 12 retirement of SC Justice Edgardo Delos Santos.

Delos Santos who is supposed to compulsorily retire on his 70th birthday on June 12, 2022 decided to retire early.

He was appointed as SC magistrate by President Rodrigo Duterte in December 2019.

Prior to this, he served as justice of the Court of Appeals (CA) from 2008 up to 2019.

He also served as a trial court judge from 1983 up to his appointment to the CA.
