Guevarra: Don’t like the COVID-19 vaccine? Wait for your turn again

Those who turned down a particular COVID-19 virus vaccine brand will have to line up again if they still want to get vaccinated, Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra said on Friday (May 21).

Guevarra pointed this out as the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF) decided to let the public know what vaccines they will be getting at the vaccination sites.

“The person concerned will not be compelled to take the jab if upon medical advice he/she believes that another vaccine is more suitable to his/her condition,” he said.

“If he/she declines to take the available vaccine, he/she will have to line up anew and take his/her chance again at some later time,” Guevarra informed the public.

Meanwhile, Guevarra defended the decision of President Rodrigo Duterte to no longer publicly announce what vaccine brands will be available at a vaccination site.

“The only thing I know is that this was prompted by the long queues in vaccination sites where a certain vaccine brand was made available, and less ostensible demand for other equally efficacious vaccines,” he said.

“Baka masayang yung stock of the latter,” he added.

Meanwhile, Guevarra said the IATF decided to make clarifications about this move of the President during its meeting on Thursday (May 20).

“While the President has given a directive not to publicly announce what particular vaccine will be made available in a particular site, every one will be properly informed at the site of the actual vaccine to be administered before he/she is made to sign the corresponding consent form,” he said.
