Do you feel the need? The need for speed!
Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana is thrilled with his “Maverick” moment when he caught a lift from a military jet.
Maverick, portrayed by Tom Cruise, is the lead character of the popular film “Top Gun.” The 1986 film featured Maverick’s quest to become the top fighter pilot.
Lorenzana, retired military official, boarded an FA-50 jet, most modern aircraft owned by the Philippine military. He looked every bit a fight pilot as he was clad in pilot gear with matching sunglasses. It wasn’t aviator shades as Maverick wore in the movie though.
“Today, at the SANAY DATU Air Defense Exercises, I got to experience actual ‘flying’ aboard an FA-50 jet – the most advanced air asset of the Philippine Air Force ,” Lorezana said.
Lorenzana appeared to enjoy his visit to the Air Force HQ, sharing photos posing beside the jet as well as inside the cockpit.
He was impressed with the skills of Filipino military pilots. He said these fighter pilots are prepared to defend the country’s air space.
“I witnessed and experienced first-hand the readiness and dedication of the Philippine Air Force to defend our air space with platforms they have,” he said.
More aircraft will be purchased to further upgrade the country’s military air fleet. “For our next AFP Modernization projects, we are pushing for the acquisition of multi-role fighter aircraft to boost our capability,” Lorenzana said.
So when’s the next flying session?
