Mas nakakasira na, divisive pa! Ping warns Palace vs damage control on WPS debate issue

Not only will it be more damaging, it will threaten to worsen the deep political division in the country.

Sen. Panfilo Lacson issued this warning Saturday, referring to the “damage control” by Malacanang in the aftermath of President Rodrigo Duterte not pushing through with a debate on the West Philippine Sea issue.

“Tapos na ang usapin. Kung ako magbibigay ng unsolicited advice kay (presidential spokesman Harry) Roque o sa taga-Malacanang siguro mas magandang manahimik na lang. Huwag na maraming pinapalabas na nakikipagdebate sa social media o sa media. Natapos na eh,” Lacson said in an interview on DWIZ radio.

He said there is no point for raising further issues since the debate between Duterte and former Justice Antonio Carpio will no longer push through.

On Friday, Roque said President Duterte designated him to debate with Carpio over territorial issues between the Philippines and China in the West Philippine Sea.

While the President had challenged Carpio to the debate and Carpio had accepted, Roque said the President heeded the advice of his Cabinet not to push through with the debate.

“Dapat tahimik na lang. Huwag na gumawa ng marami pang sagot o katwiran o palusot. Halatang damage control yan. Pero pag sobra ang damage control mo at obvious na nagda-damage control ka, the more it becomes damaging on their part,” Lacson said.

Lacson reiterated the country needs to have a united stand on the West Philippine Sea issue, with Filipinos speaking out independently on the matter instead of succumbing to two political camps and their troll farms.
