The head of the Commission on Higher Education says recruitment by the New People’s Army is still rampant among students in some state universities.
“Depende sa campus,” said CHED Chairperson Prospero De Vera when asked if NPA recruitment is still happening at University of the Philippines (UP).
He said intelligence reports show that these efforts are more evident in UP Visayas, UP Los Banos and at the Polytechnic University of the Philippines.
De Vera admitted it’s difficult for them to act on the issue, adding that they’re banking on the Anti-Terror law to address it.
“Kasi mahirap ‘yung grey line between legitimate student organizations and recruitment of students to join forces that want to overthrow the government,” he said.
“Siguro yung Anti-Terror Law, ‘yan yung magiging framework eventually of groups that are classified as terrorist organizations and therefore groups that are affiliated with these can be legally sanctioned by government,” he added.
