Senator Koko Pimentel is asking the government to let the public get vaccinated amid reports of vaccine hesitancy.
Pimentel said the vaccination can begin with the people willing to be inoculated the coronavirus disease. The lawmaker made the appeal to step up vaccination efforts in his recent Facebook post.
“Start ASAP the ‘vaccination of the willing,'” he wrote on Facebook.
He said some people not listed in the government’s priority list are “excited to be vaccinated.” Other people, on the other hand, included in the priority sectors don’t want to get vaccinated.
“Better to just open up the system and vaccinate all those who want to be vaccinated now,” he said.
Pimentel said vaccination should be offered to the willing before the COVID-19 vaccines reach their expiration date.
“We already have sufficient supply. Don’t let the vaccines expire!” he said.
Around 1 million people have so far been fully vaccinated under the government’s free inoculation drive. The government’s goal is to vaccinate 58 million Filipinos before the end of the year to reach herd immunity.
