Puno na sa Muntinlupa: Guevarra explains why ex-cult leader Ruben Ecleo was taken to Taguig hospital

The lack of available space in hospitals in Muntinlupa City has forced the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) to take former San Jose, Dinagat Islands Rep. Ruben Eleco Jr. to Taguig City, Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra said.

“The hospital where the PDL (persons deprived of liberty) may be transferred should be a nearby government hospital like the OsMun (Ospital ng Muntinlupa), unless such government hospital is full or without the necessary facility, in which case the PDL may be brought to a private hospital at his own expense and subject to strict security measures,” he explained about the inmates at the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa city.

In the case of Ecleo who is serving prison sentences at the NBP, Guevarra said “OsMun and other public hospitals were full; hence, the need to bring him to a private hospital instead.”

Meanwhile, BuCor Deputy Director General Gabriel Chaclag said Ecleo has been brought back to the Bilibid after having stayed for several days at the Dr. Sabili General Hospital in Taguig,

Ecleo has been at the Bilibid since August last year following his arrest by police in San Fernando, Pampanga on July 30, 2020 after being in hiding for years.

Among his many cases, the former supreme leader of the cult Philippine Benevolent Missionaries Association (PBMA) got convicted in 2012 for the killing of his wife Alona.
