Caused by liver problems: Ex-cult leader Ruben Ecleo back in Bilibid after hospitalization

New Bilibid Prison (NBP) inmate and former San Jose, Dinagat Islands Rep. Ruben Ecleo Jr. was recently hospitalized in Taguig City, Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) Deputy Director General Gabriel Chaclag confirmed.

“Three days, three nights po sa Sabili Hospital Taguig,” Chaclag said.

The BuCor spokesperson said Ecleo had to be taken to the hospital due to liver problems and other complications.

“Naka recover naman,” said Chaclag who assured that Ecleo has been returned to the national penitentiary in Muntinlupa City.

Among his many cases, Ecleo got convicted in 2012 for the killing of his wife Alona.

The former supreme leader of the cult Philippine Benevolent Missionaries Association (PBMA) was arrested by operatives of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) in San Fernando, Pampanga on July 30, 2020.

Police served to him an arrest warrant issued by the Sandiganbayan which convicted him in 2006 for graft charges.
